He was predeceased by: his parents, Fredrick Bast (Bernadette) and Bernadette Bast; and his grandson Nolan. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Weihert; his children, Steve (Emily), Jennifer and Scott (Amanda); his grandchildren, Grayson, Riley, Maisy and Ethan; his aunts, Alberta and Victoria; and his siblings, Rod Bast, Sue Leffler (Bob), Mike Bast (Sue), Jerry Bast, Cathi Ferry (Ken), Margaret Bast, Martha Galston and Dorothy Lee (Mike). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A memorial fund has been established for the family.
