He was predeceased by: his parents, Franklin Schartner and Dolores Schartner (Wendt); his brother Frank Schartner (Cari); his brother-in-law Charles Hails; his parents-in-law, Doug and Danica Reimer; and his nephews, Randy VanGheem and Ryan Millonig.
He is survived by: his wife Jan M. Reimer; his children, Kendall Brauer (Jason), Jason Schartner (Wilma Prins), Danielle Glesner (Eric) and Andrew Schartner (Madelaine); his grandchildren, Lanie, Blake, Eli and Max; his siblings, Lynn Hails (Delbert Brandley), Nancy Moore (Robert), Jeff Schartner (Laurie), Mary Leist (Randal) and Sandy Brauer (Richard); and his sisters-in-law, Sue Millonig (William), Barb DeMeuse (Kenneth) and Debra Staats (Edward). He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Memorials may be made in Joe's memory to S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Sevastopol Pioneer Athletic Booster Club.
