He was predeceased by: his parents, William Sommers and Margaret Sommers; his parents-in-law, Bert Benson and Helen Benson; and his brother-in-law David Benson.

He is survived by: his wife Mary; his daughters, Laura Callaway (Daniel) and Kathy Soderberg (Garrett); his grandchildren, Benjamin Callaway, Elizabeth Callaway, Jonathan Callaway and Samuel Byrne; his sister Barbara Gardner (Larry); his siblings-in-law, Donald Benson and Margo Benson; his nephew Gary Gardner (Jenny); his nieces, Cindy Vanselow (Eric) and Heidi Tiberg (Matt); and his great-nieces, Nicole Zastrow (Michael) and Natasha Gahagan (Dennis).
