He was predeceased by: his parents, Helena Gerber (Butteris) and Rudolph Gerber; his former wife Helen Riphahn; his daughter Jean; his great grandchild Jack Gerber; and his siblings, George, Robert, Joseph, Betty Singleton, Mary Ann King, Alice Redepenning, Berneice Schulenburg, Francis Trainor and Shirley Maier.

He is survived by: his wife Marge Rorge; his sons, John (Margit) of Stoughton, Jeffrey (Marla) of The Woodlands, Jim (Shelley) of Stoughton and Jerome (Angie) of Woodbury, MN; his grandchildren, Brian Stensaas (Sara), Paul Gerber (Danielle), Michael R. Gerber (Christina), Daniel Gerber, Sean Gerber (Melissa), Eric Gerber (Mackenzie), Benjamin Gerber (Rosie), Michael J. Gerber, Alex Gerber and Maddie Gerber; and his sister Janice Olday. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
