He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Mikkelson and Martha Mikkelson (Nelson); his siblings, Bjarne Mikkelson, Alvin "Knute" Mikkelson, Karen Showers (Ray) and Borghild Mikkelson; his son-in-law Abdelilah El Atrassi; and his brother-in-law Ray Showers.

He is survived by: his children, Carl Mikkelson Jr. (Linda), Brian Mikkelson (Brooke), David Mikkelson, Sam Mikkelson (Misty), Ben Mikkelson (Rachel), Mickey Mikkelson (Amber), Svenn Mikkelson (Sheila), Khadijah Arabiyat, Mary El Atrassi and Sheri Olson (Pete); his siblings, Eric Mikkelson, Leif Mikkelson (Gloria), Haakon Mikkelson (Rachel), Harald Mikkelson, Thor Mikkelson, Marilyn Weiland (Ronald), Sonja Moore and Ingrid Showers (Ed); his sister-in-law Marilyn Mikkelson; and his grandsons, Austin Mikkelson and Keith Mikkelson. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
