He was predeceased by: his parents, Clara Hess and Arthur Starr Knowlton. He is survived by: his children, Stephen Richard Knowlton (Joe Pettigrew) and Laura Yanchenko (Gregg); and his grandchildren, Anna Katherine Yanchenko and Eric Knowlton Yanchenko (Ann).

Donations may be made in his memory to the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum or to Operation Bootstrap, Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, 2801 Hoover Road, Unit 1B, Stevens Point, WI 54481.
