He was predeceased by: his parents, Lilly Knecht (Gustauvus) and Adolf Knecht; his stepmother Dolores; his parents-in-law, Hubert and Edna Hoeft (Lloyd); and his brothers-in-law, Tommy Hoeft and Joe Metzen.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen (Hoeft); his brother Richard Knecht (Irene Benz); his children, Daniel (Jodie Resch), John (Diane Kitzerow) and Amy Furreness; his grandchildren, Rachel Lenz (Casey), Maggie Knecht, Louis Knecht, Dustin Kreitzman (Mitchell), Elaina Knecht (Jonah Mutranowski), Julia Knecht and Mary Furreness; and his great grandchildren, Evelyn Lenz and Otto Kreitzman. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations directed to Sherwood Lions Club.
