She was predeceased by: her father Vincent Garner; and her husband James Backman. She is survived by: her children, James E. Backman II, Steven R. Backman (Georgette), D. Skye Backman, Katrina Baumann (Daniel), Sara Baumann (Jacob) and Jennifer Stoelb. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
