He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Zielke and Irene Zielke (Wolf); his sister Sandy Peterson; his parents-in-law, Jake and Mary Gottinger; and his brothers-in-law, Lee Hermann, Terry Peterson and Jim Kattreh.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Gottinger; his children, Kelly Kapitz (Dan) and Jim Zielke; his grandchildren, CJ Zielke (Melissa Bowman), Megan Zielke, Nicholas Kapitz (Taylor Gregory), Abigail Magee (Griffin) and Matthew Kapitz; and his siblings-in-law, Larry Peterson, Robert Gottinger (DeAnna), Gerry Kattreh, Donna Hermann and Linda Peterson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
