He was predeceased by: his parents, Valentine Karstaedt (Hanna) and Elizabeth Karstaedt (Mahler); his sister Kathleen Karstaedt; his niece Kristine Freitag; his sister-in-law Sally Karstaedt; and his nephews, David and Kevin Karstaedt.

He is survived by: his wife Virginia Nitsch; his children, Brian Karstaedt (Susan), Lisa Schneider (Brian), Brenda Prange and Yvonne Diener (Mark); his stepchildren, William Schmidt and Tina Willfahrt; his grandchildren, Casey, Justin, Lauren Schneider, Chase Diener, Taylor Diener and Mackenzie Karstaedt; his stepgrandchildren, Drew and Derek Willfahart; his great grandchildren, Brayden, Ava and Violet Schneider; and his siblings, Jerry Karstaedt, Lois Schlichting and Gerilyn Hiebing (Dan). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Saron UCC for which he was a lifetime member.
