He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Sr. Schmitt and Ruth Schmitt (Grotegut); and his siblings, Richard, Clayton, Peter Schmitt and Suzanne Schroeder.
He is survived by: his sons, Douglas (Aimee) of Rockford, IL and Danny (Heidi) of Scottsdale, AZ.; his wife Irene Bishop (Kruis); his stepchildren, Deborah Ashworth (Tom) of Lady Lake, FL, Kathleen Cupp (Steven) of Sheboygan, WI and Steven Bishop (Mary) of Sheboygan, WI.; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Schmitt, Elizabeth Erickson, La Verne Soerens (Woody) and Ruth Kruis. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Don's name.
