Percy J. Lawrence Obituary
Lawrence started his journey home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, in Appleton, Wisconsin at the age of 85. He is reunited with the love of his life, Loretta (Wilber) Lawrence. He was born on January 26, 1936, in Lawton, Oklahoma to the late Joshua and Martha (Murphy) Lawrence. He was raised by his late aunt and uncle, Ella & William Murphy of Idabel, Oklahoma. Percy graduated from Haskell High School in Kansas in 1954, where he participated in track. He was united in marriage for 23 wonderful years to Loretta (Wilber) Lawrence on September 9, 1959. Percy was an avid Packer fan and went to the "Ice Bowl" in 1967. He enjoyed watching the Cubbies, fishing, and especially enjoyed camping, sitting by the fire, and playing poker with his family. His family will miss his chili, punch, and great sense of humor. Percy often said, "that will make you run fast and jump high", "chompuli", and "is it getting dark over there?".
He is survived by: his six children, Jerry Lawrence, Judy (Joseph) Clemons, Patricia (Lee) McLester IV, Ronald Lawrence, Percy "JR" (Lisa) Lawrence Jr, Glenda (Mitch) Metoxen; seventeen grandchildren, Dana McLester, Joshua (Jessica) Clemons, Lee (Molly) McLester V, Brandon (Xai) Lawrence, Ronald "RJ" (Sacheen) Lawrence Jr, Lauren (Steve) Delie, Joseph Clemons II (Kelsey Mauer), Kelsey Clemons (Andrew Cummings), Kailey (Jesse) Colwell, Ryan (Lyndsey) Lawrence, Kennedy Metoxen, Ian (PaHoua) Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence (Ryley Carstensen), James McLester, April Lawrence (Andy Kerk), Taylor Lawrence, Cole Lawrence; and twenty-eight great grandchildren: Elijah, Hailey, Rachel, Isabelle, Francesca, James Jr., Michael, Siobhan, Anna, Megan, Joseph III, Baby Boy Clemons, Hudson, Caden, Kyleigh, Carter, Christopher, Andrew, Aubri, Ashton, Muriel, Mya, Mercedes, M'Kenzey, RaeAnna, Raymond, Mariah, and Junior; and two great-great-grandchildren, Analeya and Adalina, nephew, James (Shawn Dae) Lawrence Jr; godchildren, Kayla Jo Wilber and Eric Wilber; brother and sister in-laws, Gail Lawrence, Warren Wilber, Joylen Whitney, Dawn Wilber, Richard (Juanita) Wilber, Daryl (Marcene) Wilber, Lynette Wychesit, Ann Wilber, Renita (Roger) Corn, Martina Frechette, and Allen (Pam) Wilber. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Percy is reunited with his wife, Loretta; parents, Joshua and Martha; aunt and uncle Ella & William; brother, James Lawrence Sr; sister-in-law, Tudy Wilber; and brothers-in-law, Elmer Wilber and Richard Frechette.
A funeral service for Percy will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, Deacon Mark Fuller officiating. Visitation for the elderly and those who are immune compromised will be held from 9:30–10:30 am and for the general public, 10:30 until the time of service at the funeral home. Family is requesting that masks be worn during visitation and service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Percy's name and may be directed to Dana McLester.
