He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Melby and Esther Melby (Gregerson); and his siblings, Kenneth Melby and Lois Webie. He is survived by: his wife Judy; his children, Michael Karpinski (Tangelia), John Karpinski (Dianne), Joseph Karpinski, Kenneth Karpinski (Tracy), James Melby (Beth) and Lisa Schmidt (Gary); his grandchildren, Jason (Taylor), Jeramy (Gisela), Justin (Farryne), Jordan, Joshua (Amy), Anna, Danielle, Angelina, Ryan, Ethan, Landon Karpinski, Jane Luchsinger (Alex), Natalie Percival (Tate), Madelyn, Lydia Melby, Aeron and Owen Schmidt; his brother Gary Melby; and his siblings-in-law, Mary Lou Melby, Barbara Gardner, Jack Webie and Dennis Rogers (Donna). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
