She was predeceased by: her parents, Arnold Mowitz and Alice Mowitz (Rohde); her husband Vern Preston; and her sister Karen. She is survived by: her children, Steve (Patty) of North Freedom, Mike (JoAnne) of Plain, Gary (Sac) of Prairie and Melani Wheeler (Sac) of Prairie; her grandchildren, Jessica Shanks (Jim), Katie Trachsler (Matt), Madeline Nelson (Seth), Hannah Preston (Casey Metcalfe), Kelsey Schoepp (Tyler), Kaden Preston (Francie DiLoreto), Mikayla Wheeler (Frankie Roche) and Josh Wheeler (Jacki Spence); her great grandchildren, Jillian, Emma, Brooklyn, Sam, Eloise, Olive, Theo, Max, Lilly, Charlie and Landon; her brothers, Gene and John Mowitz; her brother-in-law Maurice Nolden (Jackie); her daughter-in-law Roberta Ash; and her niece Lyn Nolden. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made in Joan's name to a charity of choice or St. John's Lutheran Church.
