He was predeceased by: his parents, Sylvanis Gebert and Estelle Gebert (Richter); and his friend John "Hook" Lee. He is survived by: his former wife Betsy Heimlich; his son Michael D Gebert (Ashton); his granddaughters, Ellyn and Callie Gebert; and his siblings, Georgia Lutz and Steve Gebert. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
