He was predeceased by : his parent John Sr.; his son Joey; his grandson John Bonkoski; his brothers, George and Bud; and his nephew David Wahoske.

He is survived by : his parent Erna Gauger (Wendorf); his wife Pat; his children, Tom Gauger (Debbie Weichert), Kronenwetter, Julie Gauger-Burns (Mike), Rothschild Gauger-Kummerow, Laura Gauger-Kummerow (Dennis) and Stettin; his grandchildren, Darren Gauger of Thomas Gauger, Jolene Fedor, Casey Fedor, Elliot Fedor (Teresa), Robert Fedor, Jacqulyn Gauger, Brian Bonkoski and Rebecca Bonkoski; and his close friends, Corie, Bob Kettner and Jean Gritzmacher. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
