He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Nelson-McIlhargy and Howard John McIlhargy; his former wife Anita McIlhargy; his son Brian McIlhargy; and his wife Florence Miraldi-McIlhargy.
He is survived by: his sister Carol Hernandez; his children, John McIlhargy (Virginia) and Diane Holland (Tom); his stepchildren, Barbara Devine and Christopher Miraldi; and his grandchildren, Ryan McIlhargy, Sean McIlhargy (Gwen), Amanda Mone (Matt), Matthew, Tara, Kevin, Thomas Holland (TJ), Daniel, Neil, Rose and Eddie Devine.
