He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald F. Shields and Florence J. Shields (Escher); his son Gerry F. Shields; and his parents-in-law, Harold and Leila Leak.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Shields of Melancthon Creek; his son Peter Shields (Molly) of Tomah, WI; and his grandchildren, John, Charles, Benjamin and Emily Shields. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and, numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers memorials, may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Melancthon Creek.
