She was predeceased by: her parents, Otto Gust and Johanna Gust; her husband Frederick Joseph Engel (Fritz); her son Frederick Joseph Engel, Jr.; her son-in-law Larry Jakobi; her grandsons, Dale Henschen and Matthew Bader; and her siblings, Edmund Gust (Gertie), William Gust (Irene), Otto Gust Jr. (Peggy), Goldie Stick (John), Marjorie Toelle (Larry) and Helen Kratzer (Alvin).

She is survived by: her children, June Jakobi, James Engel (Irene), William Engel (Nancy), Glenn Engel (Judy), Kenneth Engel (Millie), Patti Engel, Richard Engel (Julie) and Ron Engel (Lori); and her siblings, Phyllis Knutson, Edie Achee and Walter Gust (Pat). She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

“Joyce was my last surviving older relative. For some reason I decided to go online today to check on her. I am devastated. I always received a Christmas card from her. My Uncle Freddie died so young. I didn't see much of him after he came home from the war then he and Joyce moved to northern Wisconsin, but I remember him well. Joyce and her brother and his wife came to visit me in California years ago. That's the last time I saw her. Rest in peace Auntie!”
