Clarence Mlejnek Obituary
Clarence "Shorty" Mlejnek, 82, of Rice Lake died Monday, January 5, 2009 at Rice Lake Convalescent Center. He was born November 24, 1926 in Rice Lake, WI to William and Lydia (Subrt) Mlejnek. He was raised in Haugen, WI and went to Haugen School. Clarence was in the Navy and served aboard the USS Antietam aircraft carrier during World War II in the South Pacific.
Clarence drove race cars at the Rice Lake Speedway, his number was 34, and he was known as Shorty "Dynamite" Mlejnek. He was also the secretary-treasurer for the speedway. Clarence worked for the City of Rice Lake for about 35 years. He loved gardening, fishing and traveling. Clarence traveled through every state in the United States and Hawaii.
He was married to Olivia Lee on May 28, 1962, who preceded him in death in 2004. He helped raise three sons, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by: 2 children; Doug (Bev Jilek) Mlejnek of Rice Lake and Gary Mlejnek of Rice Lake; 1 step-son, Steven Mlejnek; 3 grandsons; Troy (Kim) Jilek of Rice Lake, Austin (Jessica) Mlejnek of Haugen and Narin (Amelia) Mlejnek of Birchwood; 4 great-grandchildren; Brianna, Lorelei, Logan, Caleb; two sisters, Evelyn (Bernie) Juza and Dorothy Pickner, both of Rice Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Jarocki Funeral Home in Rice Lake, WI. Friends may call from 10 AM - 11 AM prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
