He was predeceased by: his daughter Kathleen; his parents, Roland Bartels and Stella Bartels; his brother Tom Bartels; his parents-in-law, Mary and Cyril Gehant; and his siblings-in-law, Patricia, Donna Gehant, Joan Bartels and Cy Gehant.
He is survived by: his wife Lynn; his children, Ann Quiring (Kevin), Mike (Amy), Dave (Michelle), Rob (Rebecca), Tim and Brian (Jess); his grandchildren, Grace, Ellie Quiring, Julia, Joe Bartels, Rylee, Reese, Jenna Bartels, Maddie, Matthew, Mallory Bartels, Fawn Bartels, Pierce, Gabrielle (Richard), Beckham, Everett and Landyn; his brother Larry Bartels; his siblings-in-law, Judi Bartels, Yvonne and Dean McGuire; and his son Jim. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials preferred to Madison VA Hospital/Hospice or Sacred Heart School.
