It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ethel Ann Smith (Portage, Wisconsin), born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, who passed away on February 12, 2020, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her father Leonard Jewell; her husband Byron W. Smith; her son Brian J. Gifford; her mother Lucy Waldherr (Felkowski); her stepfather Norbert Waldherr; and her brothers, Gordon Jewell and Charles Jewell.

She is survived by: her children, Michael Gifford (Suzanne) of Kenosha and Susan Gifford (Jodi Ihde) of Eau Claire; her grandchildren, Ryan Gifford (Katlynn) of Portage, Cara Gifford, Jenna Rogers (Tom) and Brandon Verbruggen; her great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Dominik and Colin; her sister Diana O'Brien (Patrick) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her stepsiblings, Joseph Waldherr of Minnesota, Michael Waldherr (Connie) of Minnesota and Terri Johnson (Dan) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her sisters-in-law, Pattie Jewell and Carol Jewell of Fishers, Indiana; her sister Susan Hall; her godson Jeff Neubauer; and her close friend Jeanette Vick. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, other near relatives and many close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in Ethel's honor.
