He was predeceased by: his parents, Forrest Strong and Margaret Strong (Weiss); and his siblings, Dorothy, Harold, Joseph, James, Carl and Charlene (Moyer).
He is survived by: his wife Pierrette DuPuy; his children, Chris Scharrer (Gary), Lisa Bishop (Otto) and Eric Strong (Kelly Mullin); his grandchildren, Corey Scharrer (Melissa), Nicole Scharrer (Owen Piotrowski), Emily Strong (TJ Fritz) and Eric Strong; his great grandchild Marty Scharrer; and his parents-in-law, Betty Strong (Harold) and Lee Moyer (Char). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
