He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Melssen and Barbara Melssen (Riemenapp); his siblings, Henry Melssen (Mary Ann), Harold Melssen (Irma), Emil Melssen (Margaret), Robert Melssen, Lucida Schmit (Ray), Catherine "Kay" Reisch (Louis) and Reuter (Fritz) of Florida; and his in-laws, Adolph and Catherine Gerhards (Menne).
He is survived by: his wife Mary Anne; his children, Diane Klaas (Rob) of Janesville, WI, Brenda FitzPatrick (Kevin) of Peachtree City, GA, Rick Melssen (Valorie Semingson) of Eau Claire, WI and Thomas Melssen of Chandler, AZ; and his brothers-in-law, Ron Gerhards (Sandy) and Jim Gerhards (Maurna). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of plants & flowers, a John E. Melssen Memorial Fund has been established.
