He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles and Clara; and his siblings, Dennis, Randy and Mary Hartmann (Charlie Songetay).

He is survived by: his wife Barb; his sons, Eric (Kris), Matt (Stephanie) and Brad (Kelly); his stepson Dan Buss (Nancy); his grandchildren, Maddie, Sam, Noah, Ethan, Aaron, Asher, Finley, Jack and Mason; and his sister Lynn Allen (Ken).

Ever the giver, Jim participated in Huntington's Disease studies, and he continues the fight against HD after his passing through his contribution to the University of Maryland Brain and Tissue Bank.
