He was predeceased by: his father John "Jack" Holmes; his grandparents, Marvin, Margaret Sherwood, Archie and Lena Holmes; and his sister-in-law Doreen Holmes.

He is survived by: his daughter Shelley Ellis (Billy); his granddaughters, Alayna and Vega; his mother Barbara Holmes; and his siblings, Lori Kobishop, Tami Tipler (Mike) and Dan Holmes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
