He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Kitten and Betty Kitten (Balzer); his granddaughter Angelica; his parents-in-law, Carl and Edna Schmidt; and his sisters-in-law, Carla Rybak and Barbara Schmidt.

He is survived by: his wife Lynn of Park Falls; his son Michael Joseph Kitten (Jennifer) of Appleton, WI; his grandchildren, Leslie, Nicole, Margaret and Audrey; his children, Emilee and Monica; his sister Geraldine Hoes (Henry) of Fox Lake, IL; and his nieces and nephews, Jody and Jeff.
