He was predeceased by: his parents, Gotthilf Schnabel and Magdalena Schnabel (Alexander); and his brother Floyd. He is survived by: his spouse Doris; his children, Bonnie Kuska (Russ Reible), Cheryl Schnabel, Craig Schnabel (Janelle Tarkenton) and Brian Schnabel; his grandchildren, Michelle Thompson (Todd), Brian Kuska (Vahna), Brandon Schnabel (Tannis) and Michael Simmons (Sessily); and his great grandchildren, Nick, Noah, Natalie, Rachael, Lillith, Nayelli, Isaiah, Laveah and Kenji. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
