He was predeceased by: his sisters, Patricia Groth and Shirley Krueger; his brothers-in-law, William Yudes, Byron Critchfield and Paul Krueger; his nephews, David Yudes and Michael Groth; and his niece Jodi Remiker.
He is survived by: his siblings, William Semrau of Cream City, Shelby Yudes of Oconto and Judie Critchfield of San Antonio; and his children, Gary Jr Semrau (Molly) of Abrams, Lukas Semrau (Nichole) of Chase, Toni DeBeck (Thomas) of Green Bay, Elizabeth Semrau, Josh Cherney and Emily Denham (Tyler) of Wilson. He is also survived by grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
