Nancy J. Hazard Obituary
Nancy Hazard, born March 1st 1929 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin to Albert and Esther Nissen, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at AngelsGrace Hospice with her family by her side. Nancy had four brothers, Bill, Butch, Otto, Felix and Frank (Peaser) and two sisters, Florence and Dorothy, who all played a part in running their successful family business, Nissen's Florist. Nancy went to Oconomowoc High School and helped out at home until her marriage to Patrick Hazard on October 14th, 1950. The couple then moved to Monterey, Wisconsin where they raised their five children, Sue, Bill, Corky, Patrick Jr. and Jerry. Nancy was widowed in 2007 after 57 years of marriage. Patrick was the love of her life and she never remarried. Nancy remained in the family home until 2023 with the companionship of her little dog Max. After her beloved Max passed away she moved to assisted living at Wilkinson Woods in Oconomowoc.
Nancy was a busy housewife most of her life but did take a job at Shorehaven Nursing Home as a nursing assistant when the kids were older. Even when she was working her family always came first. Breakfast was on the table before the kids left for school and supper was promptly served. Although Nancy was a good cook, it was her baking where she really stood out. Nancy was known for her fabulous butterhorns, but her snickens, pies, bread and lady fingers were equally as good. Her kitchen is where you wanted to be and many fond memories were made gathering around the kitchen table.
Because Nancy was blessed to live to 95, she out-lived her brothers and sisters. Nancy is survived by her daughters; Sue Schatschneider (Dale), Corky Schwabe; sons Bill (Marian), Patrick Jr. (Sue), Gerald (Nancy), and her grandchildren, Chad and Andy (Angie) Schatschneider, Kirstin (Todd) Tregenza, Kyle Schwabe, and Jennifer Hazard. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren Hannah, Jade, Henry, Abby, Oliver, Lena, Jagger and Jasper. Also friends and neighbors from the close-knit community of Monterey that share her memories and the support they provided will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held Tuesday April 9, 2024 at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home 121 S. Cross St. Oconomowoc from 4pm until 6pm when the family will share some memories of Nancy.
Nancy will be laid to rest privately with her husband at LaBelle cemetery.
