He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schmitt and Adella Schmitt (Friess); and his siblings, Elizabeth, Priscilla, Isabelle and Jerome.

He is survived by: his wife Joanne (Charbonneau); his children, Michael Schmitt (Barbara), Cheryl Zimmerman (Richard) and Julie Schmitt; and his grandchildren, Brittany, Reagan, Sarah, Jacob Zimmerman, Olivia and Matthew Schmitt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law.
