James D. Rusch Obituary

James D. Rusch, 77, was peacefully welcomed to heaven while surrounded by family on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Jim was born in Jackson, WI to the late Elmer and late Mabel (nee Liesener) Rusch. Brother to the late Milton Rusch and late Delores (Andrew) Backus, Darlene (Richard) Harris, Dennis (Marilee) Rusch, and Sally (Jim) Gregory.

After graduating Wisconsin Lutheran High School, Jim served in the Army Reserves, leaving as a Staff Sargent. He worked for the WiDOT for 35+ years, took pride in servicing "go" lights and retired as a lead electrician.

Jim's sense of humor was one of his most notable qualities, along with his passion for living a servant's life. He found great joy volunteering countless hours caring for babies and playing with children at First Steps Day Care. His talents in the trades directed him to volunteer for Builders for Christ; whether it was driving trucks across country or building churches and schools. He also was a major part in constructing the new St. Matthew's School. The largest room was dedicated to him, the "Gym.".

His curiosity took him on amazing adventures across the USA and world. He always wanted to explore what was around the next bend. His most cherished trips and time spent included his beloved family, which were the source of tremendous pride. His example of wanderlust and strong faith in God will remain as a lasting legacy.

Devoted husband of 39 years to the late Carol Lynn (nee Vollmer). Loving father of Eric (Jennaí), Heidi (Don) Holzhauer, Kevin (Stacey), and Wendi (Tom) Mallmann. Cherished grandpa of Nicholai (Gaby), Emma, Erica (Brandon), Megan, Kaitlyn, Mason, Joshua, Tessa, Aubrey, and Maxwell. Further survived by his great-granddaughter, Eleanor, many dear brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and countless family and friends.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude and love to the staff at Silverado North Shore for their exceptional care, support, dedication, laughter, and compassion shown to Jim and his family. He could not have found a more incredible place to ease his last days.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 7, from 10 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 12 PM at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church's new location, 1650 Brown St., Oconomowoc, WI.

Memorials are suggested for St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Kingdom Workers (for the benefit of Builders for Christ program), Wisconsin Lutheran High School or Wisconsin Lutheran Synod.
