He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Bernard and Lorraine Bernard (Henschel); his wife Lucy; his daughters, Karla and Annette Popke; his siblings, Lois Bessette (Tom), Maxine LeNoble (Jerome), Leon Bernard (Ida), Roland "Sonny" Vollmer (Bernice) and John Vollmer; and his brother-in-law Don Zempel.
He is survived by: his sons, Robert Bernard Jr. of New London, Kenneth Bernard (Sandra) of Manawa and Barry Bernard (Barbara) of Kimberly; his son-in-law John Popke (Joy) of New London; his grandchildren, Michele, Marsha, Amber, Austin, Lydia, Jeremy, Jason, David and Lacey; his great grandchildren, Taya, Alton, Mason and Thomas; his sister Marlene Zempel of Wausau; and his siblings-in-law, JoAnn Vollmer of Bear Creek, Anita Ousley of Grand Rapids, MI and Marvin Konrad (Janette) of Little Suamico. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
