He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerhardt Zabel and Viola Zabel (Winters). He is survived by: his wife Carol; his sons, Brian Zabel (Michele VandenHeuvel) and Mark Zabel (Angela); his grandchildren, Grant, Bridget Zabel and John Holtz; his brother Carlton Zabel (Diane); his sisters-in-law, Irma Zabel and Joanne Zabel; and his brothers, Jerome and Virgil. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Parkinson's research.
