He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Thiel and Thaleta Thiel (Radichel); his sister Darlene Sommer; and his sister-in-law Sue Thiel. He is survived by: his children, Jody Thiel (Barb), Todd Thiel (Tracy) and Heather Hass (John); his grandchildren, Lance (Harper), Eric (Melissa), McKenzie (Hunter), Mason (Lexy), Trevor (Mollie) and Hailey (David); his siblings, Dave Thiel (Marie), LeRoy Thiel, Joann Jansen (Tony) and Dewey Thiel (Jane); and his brother-in-law Henry Sommer. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
