He was predeceased by: his wife Ruth Eckhart; and his daughter-in-law Pam Thorpe. He is survived by: his children, Elizabeth Talady (Terry), Robert Thorpe, Paul Thorpe (Tammy), Pete Thorpe (Karie), John Thorpe (Deb), Susan Van De (Bob) and Lori Hilker (Tom); and his grandchildren, Zachory, Lynnzie, Brinda, Jackie, Glenda, Jimmy, Andy, Alex, Eve, Amber, Britney, Lana, Melissa and Nicholis. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
