He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Saunders and Mathilda Saunders (Sonderegger); and his siblings, Francis "Bob" Saunders, Richard Saunders, Theresa Phillips, Kathryn Cosgrove, Betty Busser and Leona.

He is survived by: his wife Lila Duerst; his children, Vickie Winters, Bill Saunders (Deb Guyette) and Laura Nevil (Pat); his grandchildren, Dawn Cockroft (Joe), Nicole Nevil-Oppliger (Justin), Troy Nevil (Lindsey) and Jesse Saunders (Hannah Taylor); his great grandchildren, Greyson, Gibson, Lila Nevil-Oppliger, Tenley, Treyton Nevil, Wyatt and Kalie Cockroft; and his brother Tom Saunders (Ann). He is also survived by nieces, and nephews.
