With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joan T. (Schockmel) Bittner of New Franken, Wisconsin, born in Greenbush, Wisconsin, who passed away on August 10, 2021 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by: her parents, Dennis Schockmel and Kate Schockmel (Roltgen); her husband Gerald "Jerry" Bittner; her son Hugh; and her sisters, Anna Marie Shea and Marge Hau.

She is survived by: her daughter Jean; her son-in-law Mark Verbeten; her grandchildren, Alex Verbeten (Laura) and Kelsey Frey (Mike); her great grandchildren, William, Nora Verbeten, Eliana and Griffin Frey; and her sister Pat Rieden.

The family requests that visitors please wear masks during the visitation hours and masks may be removed for the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Unity Hospice.

“I have always admired my Auntie and Godmother Joan. When we were young, she was a teacher. 50 years ago, being a teacher was a rather admirable occupation. My Aunt always dressed so lovely and I believe I thought her to be quite fancy. Times goes by. We grow up. My husband Gary and I had the opportunity to visit with my Aunt about a month ago. We had not seen each other in some years. We had the most lovely visit. We hugged and talked of the old days. Forever grateful. You are loved.”
