He was predeceased by: his parents, John Nettekoven and Anna Nettekoven; his wife Shirley Nettekoven (Mary Ann VerBockel); his siblings, Elizabeth Buchinger (Edmund), Jerome, Alois Nettekoven (Shirley), Dorothy Schroeder (Gilbert) and Earl Nettekoven (Geneva); and his father-in-law Arthur Engblom.

He is survived by: his children, Debi Koch (John), Jeff Nettekoven (Dawn) and Scott Nettekoven; his grandchildren, Jennifer Nack, Samantha Duncan (Joe Jr.), Tom Nettekoven and Courtney Nettekoven (Kevin); his great grandchildren, Jodarian, Ebony and Collin; his siblings, Ervin Nettekoven (Janice), Constance Nett (Eugene) and James Nettekoven (Donna); his mother-in-law Theresa Todd; and his brother-in-law David. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
