He is survived by: his children, Vicky Griffin (Bill), Kristi Evansen (Jerry), Cindy Emshoff (Charles), John Backer Jr. (Pam) and Tracy Backer; his grandchildren, Amy Childers (Steven), Billy Griffin, Jessica Drewitz (Jeremy), Jared Evansen, Jasmine Kundinger (Cody), Eric Emshoff (Rachel), Mark Emshoff (Meredith), Angie Dorschner (B. J.), Bradley Backer (Lane), Nathan Backer, Kevin Backer (Morgan), Erica, Jordin, Jeremy and Jaime Selwitschka; his great grandchildren, Kinley Childers, Beckett Griffin, Caleb, Isaiah, Ezra Emshoff, Jaylen, Natalia, Allison DeJesus, Blake, Logan, Brooke, Hudson Dorschner and Norah Kundinger; and his siblings-in-law, Jerry Wood, Marilyn and Johanna Backer.
