He was predeceased by: his daughter Mary Kathryn Thomas (Giacalone); his parents, John Thomas (Lydia) and Helen Thomas (Jack); and his parents-in-law, Alfred and Helen Ahrens.

He is survived by: his former wife Judith Margaret Ahrens; his sons, Michael Charles (Stephanie) and Stephen Scott (Lisa); his wife Judy; his grandchildren, Kathleen Thomas (Aaron Jank), Patrick Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Ivan Thomas, John Thomas, Robert Giacalone (Kayla) and Christopher Giacalone (Katie); and his brother J. Michael Pethick (Vivian). He is also survived by his six great-grandchildren.
