He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Harry Elertson and Nettie Elertson (Hogan); his wife Shirley Mehlberg; his children, Kathryn Koester (Ron) of Greenville, Bryan Elertson (Monica) of Marana and Ross Elertson of Neenah; his grandchildren, Meghan Pauly (David), Eric Koester, Kyle Koester and Amanda Switzer (Trevor); his great grandchildren, Breelyn, Ashlyn Pauly, Austyn Koester and Keon Dorsey; his sisters-in-law, Eileen Elertson (Shawano) and Delores Gehrt (Embarrass); and his brothers, Dale, Harold and Clifford Elertson. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews and friends.
