He was predeceased by: his wife Susan; his parents, Orville and Clarice; his daughter-in-law Michele; his grandchildren, Faith and Brian; and his sister Mavis Haller (Joseph).

He is survived by: his sons, Scott Mitchell and Brent Mitchell (Amy); and his grandchildren, Cody and Maura. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
