Dan C. Scheel Obituary

Dan Charles Scheel, beloved husband and father, passed away on March 14, 2025, at age 82.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 61 yrs, Rev. Karen Scheel, precious daughter Rhonda Mary Scheel Fosbinder, and adored grandchildren Emma, Anna, and Louis Fosbinder. Also left to cherish his memory are his dear sister Lynn (Martin) Kern, brother Lee (Julane) Scheel, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal cat Lucy whom he referred to as his other daughter.

Dan attended East Troy High School and then UW Madison before deciding to join the Milwaukee Police Department where he served for several years. Later, with his wife Karen and daughter Rhonda, he moved to California where he continued his career as a police officer for several more years with the Oakland Police Department. They eventually returned home to Wisconsin when Dan decided to join his father on the family farm.

With a big smile and lively twinkle in his eye, Dan was known locally as "Farmer Dan". This title warmed his heart and came to be as he imagined, founded and grew The Elegant Farmer, a farm market that became nationally known for it's famous "Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag". At one point, even taking on and triumphing over Bobby Flay in a pie baking contest! Known for fresh food, delightful treats, and friendly faces, Dan's loving and caring attitude lives on today at The Elegant Farmer. This always brought him great joy.

A devout Christian with a desire to reach others, and after passing The Elegant Farmer to the next generation, Dan founded and presided over a mission to India and Bangladesh in an effort to reach the unreached. CBTM INTERNATIONAL has grown beyond even Dan's imagination and became one of his proudest accomplishments. He made many trips to India and built long and lasting friendships that exist even today. Since Dan chose to pass the baton of leadership, the mission continues to flourish.

In addition to his parents Elmer Edmund and Dorothy (nee Morris) Scheel, Dan was preceded in death by his brother Gary Scheel and sister Joy Marti Perry.

Finally free of pain and a failing memory, Dan is walking in peace with the Lord. His smile is surely lighting the heavens as he continues to light our hearts with warm and wonderful memories.
