He was predeceased by: his wife Staci Birnbaum; and his grandparents, Jane Kramer, Frank, Elsie Kramer, John D. II and Ruth Birnbaum.
He is survived by: his parents, John III and Terri Birnbaum; his sons, John D. Birnbaum VI and Jaxsen Birnbaum; the parent of his children Jodie Schillinger; his sister Andrea; his brother-in-law Philip Stankard; and his aunts, Linda (Sid Wingfield), Jill Wittemore, Tina (Dave Styf) and Kay (Rick Martin).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to IndyCar Ministry, an organization that was close to his heart.
