He was predeceased by: his parents, Valentine Chmiel and Lucy Chmiel (Przewoznik); his wife Anna Mae Jirgl; and his siblings, Ted, Joseph, Julia Slivicke, Marion Senn, Stacia Dove, Stephanie Woytasik and Jean Groshek.

He is survived by: his children, Carole Chmiel (Martin Garza) and Richard Chmiel (Sharon) of Mosinee; his grandchildren, Chad Chmiel (Mia), Nicole (Brent) and Tracey Lassek (John); and his great grandchildren, Gavin, Parker Chmiel and Allison Maguire.

Due to Covid-19, a private family service will be held.
