Robert Steinhorst Obituary

Age 88 of Montello passed away peacefully Monday, August 28, 2023 at Randolph Health Services. Bob was born in Milwaukee on November 30, 1934 to Reinhart and Mildred (Pahl) Steinhorst. He attended Poynette High School and married Grace Derge; they had four children and later divorced. Bob became a strong man of faith and active in his local church where he met and later married Janet (Miller) Erickson on December 2, 1978 and adopted two children. They resided in Portage while he was self employed in several different trades, he had an incredible work ethic working from dawn to dusk. Bob enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He left his mark on the world by nurturing several children through foster care and planting thousands of pine trees wherever he lived.

Bob is survived by his brother, Warren, sister, Corinda (John) Harrington as well as his children: Suzanne Olson, Daryl (fiancé Wendy Tennessen), Penny Kalka, Todd (Cheress), Dustyn (Brenda) and Jennifer Steinhorst. He is also survived by stepchildren: Rita Erickson, Greg (Glenda) Erickson as well as 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty (George) Hansen, brother, Pete, son-in-law, George Kalka, daughter-in-law, Chris Steinhorst, grandson, Brent Olson, two stepchildren: Kirk and Jeff Erickson, sister-in-law, Mimi Steinhorst and brother-in-law, Alwood "Willy" Kowald.

A memorial service for Robert Steinhorst will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Pastor Julie Krahn will preside and inurnment will follow the service at Bonnett Prairie Cemetery, rural Rio. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Marquette County Dept. of Human Services, 428, Underwood Avenue, Montello, WI 53949 to help children in need.
