He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Peterson and Margaret Peterson (Tomilson); and his stepdaughter Patricia Taylor. He is survived by: his wife Loretta Collins (McKerchie); his children, Daniel (Colleen), Timothy (Cathy), Denise Muth (Dennis) and Pamela Peterson; his stepchildren, William Collins, Jean Cooper (Brian Dillard) and Joan Halder (Bryan); his stepson-in-law Bill Taylor; his sisters, Frieda Baker (Chester) and Vikki Ohlrich (Randy); and his parents-in-law, Bernice Roberts, Carol Lawrence (Robert), Irene Sears (James), Beverly Watson (Dennis), Michael McKerchie, Raymond McKerchie (Sue), Russell McKerchie (Linda) and Daniel McKerchie (Loris). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
