She was predeceased by: her parents, Amos Zimmerman and Katherine Zimmerman (Gmur); her granddaughter Kimberly Kuhnle; and her siblings, Ralph, Dwight, Gordon Zimmerman and Kay Krahenbuhl.

She is survived by: her children, Russ Torkelson (Sue) of Monticello, Duane Torkelson (Cheryl) of Lake Carroll, IL and Diane Kuhnle of Brodhead; her grandchildren, Jason Kuhnle (Katrina), Brenda Kuhnle (John), Wendy Fahey (Chuck), Angie Edge (Tim), Lacy Oster (Nick), Christina Bleifuss (Dan), Chantel Dunwiddie (Matt), Katie Richardson (Todd), Jessie Torkelson Frank (Robert), Lindsey White (Jamie) and Heidi Torkelson Lobdell (Tom); and her sisters, Gloria Thoman, Ilene Schneider and Grace Feller (Dennis). She is also survived by 24 greatgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund will be established in Valerie's name.
