He is survived by: his mother Kaye Abolins; his wife Tracy; his children, Chancellor, Katherina and Kristiana; his siblings, Wendy Beimert and Marc Clay (Tracy); his mother-in-law Judy Roinestad; his stepmother June Brinkman; his nieces and nephews, Marcus, Matthew, Mitchell, Kaitlyn and Lindsie; and his pet Alma.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family to be placed in a college fund for James' children.
